The only thing that stops this rating being 1 for appalling is th friendly and helpful staff. The room was a disgrace, no window or natrural light even - just a box in the basement (beware when booking that you make sure you're not in the basement floors!) stains on the bedclothes that left nothing to the imagination, filty carpets (clean, nice bathroom if small) tiny rooms. The corridoors had no signs on so finding our room (no-one bothered to show us) took approximately 15 minutes. The reception is old looking with no facilities and crowded with people all dissatisfied and being kept waiting to check in. No proper bar (what's there only open from 6p.m. - 9 p.m.) and restaurant decor lloked good but choice and food appaling and over priced even by London standards. Too far from town centre to easily go out so don't book this thinking you'll just pop to the West End - you'll pay more in travelling than you would paying the extra money to have a decent hotel in a good location. Staff were on the whole friendly and helpful - doing a good job in impossible cirsumstances. Please don't stay here. You have been warned!!!

| We have stayed here before and been very satisfied. However, this time we found that there were significant changes and a drop in standards. There was no wardrobe (just an Argos hanging rail); bare wires stuck out of the wall, the bath took an hour to fill, air conditioning did not function, a scruffy extra bed was stuck in a corner leaving no room to walk round the bed, no bedside units (no room for them), a disgusting matress that was soiled with blood and urine, ripped and covered in pubic hair. There wass no apology from the staff when we raised our concerns so we walked out at 11 pm. We could not possibly have stayed. We spent two hours finding another hotel which was more expensive but 10 times cleaner and better equipped. We took photographs to prove just how disgusting the room was. | |

The hotel rooms and corridors are very tired. The room had not been cleaned properly and was very 1980s. Renovations were taking place but the nights I stayed there were gangs of drunken men shouting and swearing around the hotel. The rooms are dated and limited services available. Beaware of the telephone charges 60 minutes of 0845 call rate at 1p per minute was charged at £28.

Generally fair place only but pricey. Availability ok until electrical problem closed 2 floors and was taxied to Paddington Court Hotel which was not a good experience. Beds are not comfortable, small double room at the back of hotel was scruffy. Hotel is 2* at best. Other hotels in the same street are better value. Switched rooms after 1 night to one not as good one. Bathroom looked very dirty, hair on floor,black-brown water stains on walls, shower ok, bath dirty, toilet dirty. Would not stay again. Gave a 3 rating for its friendly staff and low price at the time. against the list: Car Parking - NOT TRIED but ANOTHER GUEST COULD NOT GET SPACE. Non-Smoking Rooms - YES Internet Access - NOT TRIED Lift to all Floors YES Room Service - NOT TRIED (Restaurant closes at 21.00) Dry Cleaning Service - NOT TRIED (nearby cleaners/laundry available) Restaurant - UNTIL 21.00 Safety Deposit - NO LOCKABLE SAFES IN ROOM Ironing Facilities - BROKEN Luggage Store - YES Reception - 24 hours - YES (Friendly) Concierge - YES (Friendly) Coffee Bar - UNTIL 21.00 ONLY (Friendly bar staff) Conference Facilities - NOT TRIED Gymnasium nearby - NOT TRIED

Absolutely terrible, I can't give any comments about the rooms as I didn't make it any further than the reception desk! I was heading to London to attend an interview, and after assessing many different hotels in the appropriate area - Kensington/Earls Court, I chose the Hogarth. It was a 2 minute walk from the interview location, it had secure underground parking where I could leave my car until after the interview, it had en-suite double rooms available, and included breakfast in the price. I contacted the Hogarth mid afternoon on the day of my journey down, firstly to confirm my booking, and also to advise them that I would arrive sometime around midnight. On my arrival I was greeted by a completely clueless night porter, who initially kept me waiting at the reception desk for about 10 mins as he was finishing off some photocopying in the back room! When he eventually emerged he announced that the hotel was full, so they were transferring me to another hotel, which to my horror was at the opposite end of town in Bloomsbury! The night porter didn't know where this was so he handed me a map to locate it. At that point the phone rang and he spent another 10 mins on the phone having a conversation to someone in India, and then attempting several times to transfer the call through to a room, which he couldn't do as he said he had no idea how to operate the phone correctly! When he eventually came back to me, he phoned the other hotel to ask for their location and confirm my booking. However, he eventually passed the phone to me as the person at the other end couldn't understand a word he was saying! After speaking with the guy at the other hotel I then waited a further 10 mins for the Hogarth guy to emerge from the backroom where he had now started more paperwork duties! This whole process took over an hour! So, I find myself in a hotel that is miles away from my interview location, is inside the congestion zone, isn't within easy walking distance of my interview, which therefore entails a drive across town beforehand! In conclusion, this was entirely unacceptable on the part of the Hogarth, and if I had made the reservation with them direct I would be looking for at least a partial refund for the inconvenience caused. However, having made the booking via a website similar to this, I doubt any redress is possible, "you pays your money, you takes your choice" as they say. Although the website did everything it was asked to do, in future I will always book direct, so that any subsequent problems can be redressed directly. However, as far as the Hogarth is concerned, I won't be making any sort of booking with them in the future.
